So, we left off with my mom's trip to Chile, seems like a lifetime ago, pero bueno.
Even though she left on the 18th of November, there was A LOT that happened, so here we go:
That night Kylie and I could not use our bus passes previously purchased because to our surprise, the Santiago bus station is a complete ZOO on Fridays so our bus filled up before we even had a chance. So we had to purchase another ticket which wasn't due to arrive for another 2 hours. So we parked our depressed, exhausted, annoyed selves in a corner and waited. That night we learned what "atrasado" meant..We waited an extra half an hour for our bus to arrive since it was "behind schedule." We finally made it back to Viña where there were not any colectivos or micros in sight, so I treked it from the bus station to my apartment at 1am, freezing in my t-shirt.
The next morning, before my family was awake, I had to get ready for our trip to Algarrobo (I know, 3rd time's a charm). I was running late, since I didn't have time the night before as I expected to pack my bags. So I quickly put a bag together and ran out the door. I decided it was a Starbucks day after the 10 exhausting days I had with my mom and especially the night I had just went through. So I ran there for a coffee, met up with some other girls, took a Micro to Valpo, walked to the bus station, and before I knew it, I was on yet ANOTHER 2 hour bus ride to Algarrobo.
In Algarrobo, this time, a few of us in our group wanted to go to the Biggest Pool in the World. So we made our reservations to rent an apartment for a night. Our last vacation together. So the 10 of us met up with Micho and Hugo and another kid from Arizona.
With a few transportation complications we all arrived at different times but soon enough we were all changed into our suits and hitting up the pool-the World's Largest- and enjoying ourselves.
We all had a great time playing, then the sun started to set, and a whole new set of playing began...
The Next weekend, even though we were 5, 000 miles away from our families who were celebrating Thanksgiving without us, we were lucky enough to celebrate our US tradition with our families in Chile! Our University set up a Thanksgiving dinner of Turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, and apple kuchen (equivalent to our apple pie) It was a great opportunity for me and my mama to spend the evening together with everyone else's host families and our professors, and the amazing view of UAI definitely complemented the night.
Being one of the only occassions we had to dress up, some of us also celebrated our Thanksgiving on the beach watching the sun set and getting some drinks afterwards. It made for an unforgettable and unique Thanksgiving. Of which I am so incredibly thankful for <3
That Friday, some of us took advantage of our non-class day and went to another beach town called Maitencillo. We waited for a Micro that would take us there for over an hour, but we finally boarded and spent the rest of the day (which wasn't all that sunny) exploring the little town and making our way back to Viña that evening.
That night, our trusty Arte prof Jorge, provided us with tickets to a ballet and concert of "Las Tres", which I later found out from my host mom are a very popular group around Chile, especially in her generation since they spoke out against the dictator in the 70's. The ballet was absolutely gorgeous. I looked it up on YouTube for my mom, if you're interested the first part is at this Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enx_4WKN_7o&fb_source=message
That night, we celebrated Anna's 21st birthday at Cafe Journal, we all chatted and had some drinks and mil hojas cake of course!
The following day, Brad and I hadn't hung out for awhile so we decided to take advantage of the day and head to the nearby city of Renaca and hit the beach for awhile. It was a great day to be out and I believe this was the last time we got together while in Chile. La Brad was great to have in Chile with me. We always had great convos over empanadas or ice cream, listening to our music on the beach. He's a great friend and I am so lucky to have shared this experience with him. Now I have a Spanish Speaking partner with me at home :]
The week of classes stressed us all out, so in name of taking advantage of every moment, many of us had not yet been to Las Dunas in two towns over in Con Con. So we planned a date for sun set. It was incredible. Being able to chat with each other while watching one of our last sun sets on top of the natural mounds of sand, which the city wants to tear down to build, so I felt lucky to have gotten to experience them before they are torn down.
So since this has gotten to be ridiculously long, I will begin another post with the rest. I am happy to see that the memories are still there and even though I am tearing up at the Lino Lakes Caribou, staring out at the bare trees and snow on the ground, out to the Target and Kohls that I had been longing for while in Chile, I am able to escape, even a little bit, to that paradise of mine 5,000 miles away <3
